Why become vegan in 2020?

Veganism is an increasingly popular method of diet and lifestyle for many.

What is veganism?

Becoming a vegan is a large lifestyle choice and involves the practice of not purchasing, using or eating any products created through exploitation or cruelty to animals.

why become a vegan?

Individuals choose a vegan lifestyle for a range of reasons whether being mindful of animal well-being, as a means to save the planet from climate change or simply to improve your health, the choice is personal to each person.

Benefits of a vegan diet

A vegan diet has a number of benefits and one of the most noticeable is weight loss, although this is more likely to be caused due to eating "cleaner" as many "cheat" foods are made with animal produced contents and manufactured sugars. Vegan diets include plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Being so heavily reliant on these foods is a positive as they are higher in vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and fibre which are abundant. Vegan diets are very high in specifically vitamins B1, C and E, iron, magnesium, folic acid.

A vegan diet has been known to reduce the risk of a number of conditions such as;

  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Ischemic Heart Disease
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Stroke
  • Obesity
  • Cancers

While vegan diets can be healthy for people of all ages, it is very important to pay attention to the nutritional needs you have as an individual. If you require more information and guidance to begin a vegan diet, we would highly recommend consulting with a nutritionist or dietitian.
